Retailers are not the only ones offering customers big savings and perks this holiday season.

Credit card companies are also rolling out offers, and WalletHub has ranked the best of them after evaluating the assorted rewards, fees, rates, credit score requirements, secondary features and savings that companies are offering.

Savings and features were calculated assuming the average American would be paying off about $8,000 in credit card debt over a period of two years.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred Card stood out in how it allows customers to rack up bonus points. This card yields 50,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 in the first three months, which is equivalent to $625 in travel through Chase Ultimate Rewards. Double points are earned on travel and dining worldwide and one point per dollar spent on all other purchases. This card has no annual fee in the first year, but a $95 annua fee after that. 

 

Best Ongoing Rewards For The Holidays And Beyond: Citi Double Cash Card

 

The Citi Double Cash Card provides the consumer with a plain and simple approach to gaining rewards this holiday season, according to WalletHub. Shoppers will receive double cash back, with 1% back on all purchases and an additional 1% back as the purchase is paid off. Unlike many other cards, this card does not require purchases from specific categories such as gas stations or supermarkets for cash back. There is no limit on the cash given back and no annual fee. The card was also cited for having the best extended warranty offers on purchases.

 

Best For Avoiding Interest On Holiday Purchases: Citi Diamond Preferred Card

 

 

If you’re looking to avoid paying interest on your purchases this holiday season, the Citi Diamond Preferred Card offers a zero percent APR on purchases for the first 21 months. There are no annual fees. 

 

Dest Store Discount: Kohl's Credit Card

 

New Kohl's card applicants receive a 25 percent discount on their first purchase upon approval. Unlike other department stores, this card does not place a cap on the amount the customer can save. Customers also receive a 15 percent discount coupon once the card arrives and cardholders have special access to store discounts throughout the year. 

 

Best Ongoing Store Rewards: The GAP Store Card 

 

The Gap Store Card gives cardholders five reward points per dollar spent. Once approved for a Gap Card, cardholders will receive 1,000 points and save 20 percent on their first purchase. Cardholders also earn a $5 rewards card each time they earn 500 points. 

 

Best For Lowering The Cost Of Post-Holiday Debt: Chase Slate Card

 

For shoppers looking to keep post-holiday debt to a minimum, the Chase Slate card offers a zero percent introductory APR on balance transfers for 15 months. There is no balance transfer fee for transfers made in the first 60 days and there is no annual fee. 

 


Best Credit Card For Price Protection: Chase Sapphire Preferred

 

The Chase Sapphire Preferred Card offers a large initial bonus of 50,000 points and a price protection program that provides cardholders with a refund if a purchased item is found at a cheaper price within 90 days. 

 

Best Purchase Protection: Citi Diamond Preferred Card 

 

If purchases made with the Citi Diamond Preferred Card are damaged or stolen, customers may be eligible for a refund. The card has a zero percent introductory interest rate for 21 months and no annual fee.
