Based on its research, S&P Dow Jones Indices concluded that selecting recently outperforming active mutual funds is not the best way to identify and create persistent alpha within a portfolio. In fact, the report’s authors note that across many categories, persistence of performance is worse than they would expect “under luck alone.”
