Just as optimism can get out of hand, so can pessimism. A recent Wall Street Journal article attempted to draw absurd parallels between our economy and Japan‚s. A permanent recession won‚t be what happens here. As surely as the sun will rise tomorrow, consumer and business confidence will be restored, and a recovery will be under way, probably by next year. Some day, probably in the next decade, when once again we‚ve had it so good for so long, I hope we don‚t forget the fall of 2001.
