The world’s largest asset manager is teaming up with one of the world’s largest companies to create retirement planning solutions.

BlackRock announced on Thursday that it has entered a technology partnership with Microsoft to create a retirement savings platform that will launch in 2019.

“Retirement systems worldwide are under stress, and providing financial security to retirees has become one of the most defining societal challenges of our time,” said Laurence D. Fink, chairman and CEO of BlackRock, in released comments. “BlackRock has a tremendous responsibility to help solve this challenge, and we recognize the need to act now. Working with Microsoft will enable us to build a powerful solution for millions of hardworking Americans.”

The platform will combine Microsoft’s cloud technology with “next generation” BlackRock investment products. The companies hope to encourage people to strengthen their saving and investing habits via regular engagement with their assets, portraying a “clearer picture” of how contributions today can translate to retirement income in the future.

The new BlackRock products will be designed with a lifetime of retirement income in mind, and will be offered within workplace savings and retirement plans.

No additional information on the new platform was made available on Thursday.
