An internship program designed to help professional women re-enter the workforce has placed 10 women full-time jobs, the CFP Board Center for Financial Planning announced Tuesday.

The Financial Planner Re-Entry Initiative was launched last year by the center in conjunction with iRelaunch, a career re-entry program, and is designed to attract experienced, professional women into the financial planning profession. The interns are women who have taken a break from their careers and are ready to re-enter the workforce. Although designed primarily for women, the program is also open to men. 

Eleven women joined the initial initiative and 10 internships were turned into full-time jobs. A new round of internships was just launched and will run through November 2019.

Firms that participated in the center’s initial round of internships included Edelman Financial Services and United Capital, both of which were sponsored by TD Ameritrade Institutional; Luma Wealth and Yeske Buie, sponsored by Schwab Advisor Services through the Schwab Foundation; and Fidelity Investments.

Firms participating in the second round are Ayco, a Goldman Sachs Company; Carson Wealth, sponsored by TD Ameritrade Institutional; The Colony Group; Moisand, Fitzgerald & Tamayo; Northwestern Mutual; Sullivan Bruyette Speros & Blayney; TD Ameritrade; and Vanguard.

“Based on our initial results, we are issuing a call to action for more firms to establish re-entry internship programs as a pathway for professional women into the financial planning profession and CFP certification,” said Marilyn Mohrman-Gillis, the CFP Board Center for Financial Planning executive director.
