A former Wells Fargo duo managing about $235 million has launched StrateFi Wealth Management, a new independent practice in partnership with LPL Financial’s Strategic Wealth Services (SWS), an affiliation model for breakaway advisors, LPL announced today.

Jason Sherr and Merrick Nguyen, longtime colleagues, merged their practices about 10 years ago, as Sherr was looking to expand his team and Nguyen sought opportunities for growth, the release said. The firm is based in Irvine, Calif., and Reno, Nev.

The pair, the release said, takes a team approach in providing comprehensive financial services and investment advice to help clients’ grow and preserve their assets and transition wealth to future generations. They are joined by Kim Burdeaux-Neal, director of client relations.

The advisors said they were destined to move to independence. “It was not ‘if’ but ‘when’ we would go independent, because we want this to be our last move,” Sherr said. They partnered with LPL Strategic Wealth Services because of the combination of innovative technology and the ongoing business management support, the release said, adding, “They also appreciate that the breakaway solution removes the constraints of bureaucracy, allowing them to serve their clients and grow the business as they see fit.”

“With the SWS model, we have the technology, support and resources to really hit the ground running on day one,” said Nguyen. “Our ultimate goal is to provide enhanced services to our clients. We understand that time is something you can never get back. With the support of the SWS team, we have more time to interface with clients, analyze their portfolios and really give them a differentiated experience.”

StrateFi Wealth Management is the 12th team to join the SWS channel since its inception in April 2020. SWS bridges the transition to independence by providing dedicated support to advisors, including real estate sourcing, brand development, technology setup and human resources support, the release said. In addition, LPL said it provides ongoing administrative, marketing and CFO services to the advisors.
