A Financial Planning Association chapter that provides exceptional pro bono services will be honored with the newly-created Power of Financial Planning Award, FPA announced Tuesday.

The award has been created by the FPA and the Foundation for Financial Planning and will be awarded annually. The first winner will be announced this summer and the award will be presented at the FPA annual conference in October.

The award will recognize a chapter that provides free, no-strings attached, objective financial planning advice to underserved populations. Since 2011, the Foundation for Financial Planning has partnered with FPA and FPA’s nationwide network of chapters to help empower thousands of Americans in crisis or need, connecting them to FPA volunteers to help them improve their finances and their lives, FPA said.

“FPA chapters across the country partner with nonprofits to serve some of the most financially vulnerable members of our society – victims of natural disaster, wounded veterans, domestic violence survivors, people with cancer, and many more,” Jon Dauphiné, CEO of the Foundation for Financial Planning, said in a statement. “We look forward to showcasing this exceptional work and highlighting the meaningful impact of pro bono – not only to the client, but also to the volunteer and the profession as a whole.”

Nominations to submit an FPA chapter for the award are due July 12. Additional information can be found here.
