Two women from Condor Capital Management were named “Rookie of the Year” by the New Jersey chapter of the Financial Planning Association at its fall conference at William Paterson University on Thursday. The university was honored with the Heart of Financial Planning Award at the same conference.

Tanya Walliser, manager of financial planning, and Jeanette Lucas, senior portfolio manager at Condor, are involved in the New Jersey FPA’s NexGen group for professionals under the age of 36. The chapter awarded them for their efforts in publicizing its events.

“I think this award highlights the importance of the NexGen group and its efforts to provide resources to the next generation in the industry,” said Walliser.

“It shows that if everyone contributes, even if it is a small amount, it goes a long way,” said Lucas.

Lucas believes that as more colleges and universities add financial planning to their list of concentrations, it shows “great progress” for the industry. She added, “When I was in college majoring in finance, most of the focus was on investments and corporate finance with very little on financial planning, so it is great to see that is beginning to change. “

As for Walliser, she hopes to continue her efforts in helping new and up-and-coming advisors. She also said she hopes “the NexGen group can be a place where these advisors can share best practices and learn from each other.”
