Hannah Moore and Laurie Dubchansky have been selected as the recipients of the Financial Planning Association’s 2021 Heart of Financial Planning Award, the FPA announced today.

The award goes to financial planning professionals, firms or organizations that have “demonstrated remarkable commitment and passion for contributing or giving back to the financial planning community or the public,” the FPA said. “The awardees exemplify the spirit of financial planning and represent FPA’s primary aim” of elevating the profession. Both women are CFP mark holders.

Moore, who is a member of the FPA of Dallas-Fort Worth, is the owner and founder of Guiding Wealth in Richardson, Texas. She will receive the award for her efforts to foster a sense of community among the next generation of financial planners, the FPA said.

As the host of the podcast, “You’re a Financial Planner … Now What?” and of the Facebook community FPA Activate, she has been a catalyst in bringing young professionals together and bridging the gap between generations of financial planners, the FPA said. Moore also is the creator and organizer for the FPA Virtual Externship, which recently completed its second year with 907 participants.

“It is a privilege to be working with new and established planners alike to be moving our profession forward. This is my community and my professional home, and I am thankful for the opportunities to make it welcoming for everyone,” Moore said in a statement.

Dubchansky, who is a member of the FPA of Orange County, Calif., is the owner and founder of Havaplan Financial in Newport Beach, Calif. She will be given the award “for her exceptional leadership in pro bono financial planning that has positively impacted many in her community,” the FPA said.

Dubchansky works with numerous community organizations and non-profits, including the United Way and Habitat for Humanity, and chaired the UCI Merage School of Business LifeVest Steering Committee. She also served on the board for Women Investing in Security and Education, where she presented financial literacy content to Girl Scouts and Girls, Inc. Currently, she chairs a pro bono subcommittee for the FPA of Orange County, where 20 fellow CFP professionals provide virtual pro bono sessions and webinars in their community.

"As CFP professionals, there is so much we can do to help our communities. I find great joy in working with my FPA colleagues to reach out to those who have not yet learned the benefits of good financial planning," Dubchansky said in a statement.

“Hannah and Laurie are setting an important example for how those in the profession can positively impact lives and elevate financial planning,” 2021 FPA President Skip Schweiss said in a statement. “Their efforts to open the profession to the next generation and help those in underserved and at-risk communities get the financial guidance they need shows the heart they have for this profession.”

Moore and Dubchansky will be presented with the awards at the FPA national conference in 2022.
