The days of free lunch are over at Goldman Sachs Group Inc.

The investment bank said Tuesday that it’s transitioning back to “paid-for-meal” service for breakfast and lunch on April 25, scrapping a pandemic perk. Goldman also said it was boosting the stipend for meals “out of hours” to $30 from $25, according to a memo obtained by Bloomberg.

Wall Street firms have used free food as part of the push to bring employees back to their desks during a pandemic that has fueled the rise of hybrid schedules and remote work. Goldman has been one of the most aggressive financial firms in pushing for a return to the office.

The New York Post reported in February that Goldman bankers were complaining the $25 meal reimbursement was too small.

Complimentary coffee service will continue to be offered at the Goldman’s 200 West St. headquarters in Manhattan through early September, according to the memo.

Instead of free meals, the investment bank said it would offer a number of other “new experiences and offerings,” including snack pop-ups and “Support a Local Restaurant” days.
