Edelman Financial Engines has appointed Kelly O’Donnell to lead its workplace business, according to a company release.

O’Donnell, who previously served as chief administrative officer and chief risk officer, overseeing the company’s strategic plan and expansion of capabilities through mergers and acquisitions, will report directly to President and CEO Larry Raffone. She is based in Boston.

O’Donnell has been with Edelman Financial Engines for 16 years and started out developing plan provider and sponsor relationships while leading workplace marketing, product and strategy initiatives. Prior to joining the firm in 2003, she spent five years at Cerulli Associates as a consultant and analyst.

She also is the founder and executive sponsor of the Edelman Financial Engines’ Women in Leadership program to advance women leaders and give them resources that help them invest in their personal and professional development as well as the company’s program to attract, develop, and retain women planners.

Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Edelman Financial Engines is the largest independent financial planning and investment advisor, with 178 planner offices across the country. It serves more than 1.2 million clients and manages more than $212 billion in assets.
