Lou Stanasolovich, a prominent financial advisor in the Pittsburgh area and the founder of Legend Financial Advisors, died last Friday at his home. He was 64 years old.

Stanasolovich founded Legend in 1994 and, with his partners, built it into a powerhouse in the Pittsburgh region. He served on the board of a predecessor organization to the Financial Planning Association and was active in the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors.

A longtime advocate of risk-controlled investing, Stanasolovich created a monthly newsletter in partnership with Financial Advisor magazine. He believed in detailed investment research and devoted hours each month to interviewing portfolio managers and analyzing performance data.

His investment philosophy outlined in the newsletter, called Risk-Controlled Investing, was initially developed for his mother after his father died.

He was a big believer in teamwork, and Legend was one of the first firms to make extensive use of interns. He was also a huge baseball fan and coached both Little League and Legend’s own team.

Stanasolovich is survived by his two sons, Kenneth and Thomas, and his former wife, Celine. Services are being held today at Bohn-Matich Funeral & Cremation Services in Ambridge, Pa.
