A Piedmont, Calif.-based financial advisor was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter after fleeing the scene of a fatal crash that killed a pedestrian after his wife, a passenger in the vehicle, helped to turn him in, according to published reports.
Timothy Hamano, 64, owner of Hamano & Associates since 2018, has been registered with LPL Financial since 1999, according to his BrokerCheck profile.
According to Hamano’s hometown paper, the East Bay Times, Hamano allegedly ran away on foot from the scene of the May 9 wreck in Oakland, Calif., leaving his injured wife and failing to check on the condition of the pedestrian.
The paper cited probable-cause documents filed Wednesday in Oakland, which stated that “an Oakland police officer said Hamano had been driving his Lexus GS north on Park Boulevard in Oakland around 5:14 p.m. on May 9 when he failed to navigate a turn and hit a pedestrian who was standing on the sidewalk, leaving him with ‘grave’ injuries.”
The paper said Hamano’s wife joined other witnesses in identifying her husband. It said she told authorities in a statement that he had been drinking alcoholic beverages throughout the day before the collision.
The paper said Hamano turned himself in a day later, after officers obtained a warrant for his arrest and checked his home.
The victim of the crash was identified as 41-year-old Gregory Turnage Jr., who subsequently died. He leaves behind a 10-year-old son, and his partner, Angie Brey, according to a report in the San Franciso Chronicle.
Hamano began his career at AXA Advisors/The Equitable Life Assurance Society of the U.S. in 1980, where he spent 19 years before moving to LPL.
