Most U.S. consumers who own stocks expect continued gains in share prices in the year ahead, a University of Michigan survey showed Friday.

Among those who own shares, 62.3 percent said they see shares extending gains during the year ahead, up from 61 percent in the second quarter and near the peak of 63.5 percent in the first three months of 2018, according to the report.

The survey showed that the proportion of households that own stocks remained stable at 65 in the third quarter, which was unchanged from the first two quarters of this year and up from 64 percent last year and 63 percent in 2016.
