A new scholarship aimed at students representing diverse populations will be awarded through the CFP Board Center for Financial Planning and Parsec Financial, it was announced today by the CFP Board Center for Financial Planning, which focuses on creating a more diverse and sustainable financial planning profession.

The scholarship is part of the center’s goal to increase the number of financial planners who are members of minority communities.

Parsec Financial CFP Certification Diversity Scholarships of up to $5,000 each will be awarded four times annually for the next four years to qualified students from underrepresented populations in the nation’s Southeast who are pursuing CFP certification, the center said. All scholarships offered through the center, including the Parsec scholarships, “build the profession’s talent pipeline, foster diversity and raise awareness of the financial planning career to college students across the U.S.,” the center said.

Parsec is a financial services and wealth management firm with offices in North Carolina.

“At Parsec Financial we recognize the importance of diversity and know that our industry would be improved with a more complete representation of talented professionals,” said Parsec CEO Rick Manske,

To be eligible for the scholarships, candidates must be U.S. residents and enrolled in a certificate-level CFP Board Registered Program at a college or university located in either Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia or West Virginia.

As an alternative, candidates can be residents of one of those states who are enrolled in an online certificate-level CFP Board Registered Program at the time the awards are issued. Candidates also must be from the financial planning profession’s underrepresented populations in terms of race or ethnicity.
