Super Bowl LIII stood out for some interesting reasons. For the New England Patriots it was a record-tying sixth Super Bowl win, with them defeating the Los Angeles Rams 13 to 3. The game was a low-scoring battle, setting a record for the fewest points scored.

For Bill Belichick and Tom Brady it was their ninth appearance in the championship game, likely putting away any doubt that they are both the greatest of all time. Julian Edelman was a well deserving MVP, having an outstanding game, as Brady’s go-to receiver. However, the defense probably deserves even more credit, holding the Rams, a usually high-scoring team, to just 3 points.

While the game was a bit lackluster, so were many of the Super Bowl commercials. With that said, some stood out as the best.

Killer Skin By Olay

This ad had Sarah Michelle Gellar hiding from a scary movie-like killer, but when she goes to call for help, she can’t unlock her phone with facial recognition feature because she has been using Olay and it totally had transformed her skin to look much better.

This commercial was entertaining, had some suspense and then a laugh or two. Its one draw back was that it had a limited target market.

Special Delivery By Bud Light

In a witty attempt to return a huge barrel of corn syrup, the king and his people visit the Miller Lite and then the Coors Light castles. It was a clever way to point out an unhealthy ingredient in the beer manufacturer’s largest two competitors.

This commercial used humor in an attempt to win over beer drinkers. Plus, the Super Bowl is probably the perfect target audience for this ad.

The winner for best humor and connection with the audience was…

The 100-Year Game By The NFL

While at a black-tie event, a golden football falls on the floor and mayhem ensues. NFL greats from past and present fight for the ball, show their signature moves and destroy the receptions’ tables, cake, champagne tower and more. The closing message read “Get ready for 100,” setting football fans up for a big milestone year for the National Football League.

This commercial had the perfect target audience, with all those watching the football game.  The only issue was that it ran at halftime, when many people are taking bathroom breaks, getting more food and grabbing another beverage. With that said, it is sure to get many replays and should have viral marketing success.
