Tiedemann Advisors, an RIA and wealth management firm headquartered in New York City, has appointed Jed Emerson to the position of managing director and global lead of impact investing, the company announced today.

“Interest and demand for impact among our clients and prospects has never been greater with over $3.5B already committed,” Tiedemann’s namesake CEO Michael Tiedemann said in a news release. “Jed’s sincerity and commitment to the field will serve as an instrumental resource as we grow our capabilities with a sustainable and authentic approach internationally.”

Emerson, who served on Tiedemann’s Impact Advisory Council the past three years, will now formally join the company to oversee strategy and implementation of its impact investing practice.  He will work alongside Jennifer Ayer and Brad Harrison, who co-lead Tiedemann’s U.S. impact investing strategy, to deepen the firm’s expertise and capabilities. Emerson will also work with advisors and their clients to identify effective impact solutions.

For decades, Emerson has led and advised funds, firms, social ventures and foundations pursuing financial performance in combination with social and environmental impact. He was influential in the development of a methodology for calculating social return on investment (SROI), as well as the concepts of blended value and total portfolio management.

Emerson is currently a senior fellow at global impact investing network Toniic, and a senior research fellow with the Center for Social Investment at Heidelberg University.

“Over the last 10 years, impact investing has completely taken off,” Emerson said in the news release. “There is an opportunity for firms, who have scale and integrity, to reflect on how best to continue to advance impact and sustainability through a traditional investment structure.”

Founded in 1999, Tiedemann Advisors is an independent investment and wealth management advisor for high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, foundations and endowments. It oversees approximately $25 billion in assets under advisement nationwide.
