Most women still are paid less than men, but a group of women have managed to work their way onto the list of top paid CEOs of U.S. public companies.

Equilar, an information source on CEO pay and shareholder issues, released its 2015 CEO pay list for the largest 100 companies on May 11. There are only eight women on the list, but they served in the top positions at their companies and earned an average of $22.7 million. That compared to average pay of $14.9 million for the 92 male CEOs.

Six of the eight women were among the top 25 in CEO pay. A women and a male who serve as co-CEOs shared the top spot on the list.

Following is a list of the women CEOs who get the most compensation, listed in reverse order. The number represents where they ranked among the list of 100.
