The latest tracking by WalletHub shows a wide divergence in the way states are reacting to the coronavirus, with some states continuing to use a light touch when it comes to imposing restrictions on the public.

The personal finance website has been tracking states since May 15, using 16 metrics to rank them according to the level of restrictions they've instituted in reaction to the epidemic.

Among other things, the report looked at face-mask requirements, whether states had restrictions on travel and large gatherings, and the status of schools and non-essential businesses.

The following 10 states, in ascending order, were deemed to have the fewest epidemic-related restrictions as of today:

10. Wyoming

The state has the ninth-lowest Covid-19 death rate and has been among the states with the 10 lowest restriction levels since May 19.

9. Oklahoma

The state has been in the news lately for a jump in recorded cases, but it has eighth-lowest death rate. It ranked 34th on the lowest-restrictions list as recently as June 9.

8. Idaho

The state has the fourth-lowest death rate and, in previous reports, was among the states with the five lowest restrictions.

7. Iowa

Unlike some of the other states in the top 10, Iowa has seen a moderate number of fatalities due to Covid-19, with a death rate higher than 24 other states.

6. Missouri

The state, despite the low restrictions, has the 20th-highest Covid-19 death rate.

5. North Dakota

The state has the 14th lowest death rate and, as recently as June 9, had the second-lowest restrictions.

4. South Carolina

Another state that has seen a surge in cases recently, South Carolina has the 23rd lowest Covid-19 death rate.

3. Utah

The state has the 12th-lowest death rate and has been consistently among the five states with the least restrictions.

2. Wisconsin

The state's Covid-19 death rate is higher than that of 26 other states, many of which are imposing more restrictions.

1. South Dakota

The state has the 15th-lowest death rate and has had the nation's fewest Covid-19 restrictions since WalletHub began tracking states on May 5.
