Spotlight - PowerShares WilderHill Clean Energy fund (PBW)

The top scoring fund in February belongs to a sector fund, the PowerShares WilderHill Clean Energy fund (PBW), as it takes over last month’s leader, the Ariel Fund (ARGFX).  PBW is currently scoring at 5.53, which is up over 2.5 points in the recent months. In addition, PBW is also scoring well above the average Energy-related fund by almost 3 points.  On the diversified fund front, the Ariel Fund stills holds a dominant score of 5.2.  It's important to note that the Ave Maria family has two high scoring funds at this time, as both their Growth Fund (AVEGX) and their Rising Dividend fund (AVEDX) are scoring above the 4 score line.  An additional top scorer over the month is the Parnassus Equity Income Fund (PRILX).  Within the collection of SRI equity funds, the US equity funds are exhibiting more relative strength than their international equity counterparts. Concerning the fixed income allocation, the top 3 fixed income scores belong to Calvert with their two leaders, the Calvert Income fund (CFICX) and their Calvert Long-Term Income fund (CLDAX), both scoring well above 3 while the average fixed income funds trades with a score of 2.36.  Another strong opportunity in the fixed income universe is the Pax World High Yield Bond fund (PAXHX) with a score of 3.28.  High yielding related funds are significantly stronger in relative strength than the average quality fixed income fund, so be sure to include high yield funds in your fixed income allocation mix.

DWA Fund Score:    The DWA Fund score ranks the technical strength on a scale of 0 through 6 using an equation based on price trending and relative strength.  Funds with scores above 3 are considered by Dorsey Wright to be “investment grade”.   Funds with scores close to 6 are “market dominant."

DWA rRisk Score:     The DWA rRisk score measures the risk of the group on a relative basis. The calculation uses the 3 year Standard Deviation average of the group or fund divided by the Standard Deviation of the Cap Weighted S&P 500 Equity Index. Ratios higher than 1 demonstrate higher risk than the market benchmark and ratios less than 1 demonstrate lower risk than the market benchmark.
