Publisher's Note: Dawn Of A New Era
I am pleased to welcome all of you back for The 12th Annual Financial Advisor Symposium-an event that has become one of the biggest and most important in our industry! This year we are returning to Orlando, and the delightful surroundings of the Peabody Hotel, accompanied by a terrific lineup of unsurpassed talent from the financial advisor industry.
One year ago, we were preparing for the changes that were certain to follow the greatest financial crisis and perhaps most important presidential election of a lifetime. Changes have come since last year, but what remains constant are your client's need for sound, steady advice and the opportunities that confront advisors during uncertain times. That's why at this Symposium, we'll be focusing on the tools, strategies and resources available to help you guide your clients-and your practice-in a new era.
Financial Advisor magazine has ontinued its partnership with oneyShow, the world's leading producer of investment trade shows and cruises, to bring you this Symposium. We are pleased to be the only financial trade publication to offer readers their very own FREE three-day annual event at which they can meet and network with our writers, editors, sponsors and other industry luminaries and qualify for CE credits along the way.
As always, the FAS will bring Financial Advisor magazine to life by featuring successful and prominent advisors from within our readership-this time with a special focus on the new era that is upon us. We'll feature successful advisors who include Harold Evensky, Judy Shine, Mike Martin, Greg Sullivan, Lou Stanasolovich, Ken Steben, Tom Lydon, Suzanne Hamilton, Anthony Welch, Rick Adkins, Dan Moisand, Michael Zmistowski, David Lawrence and many others. FA editors Evan Simonoff and Dorothy Hinchcliff and others will moderate panels featuring industry experts such as Dan Fuss, Carl Kaufman, Margaret Patel, Michael Cuggino, Barry James, Robert Isbitts, John Connor, Charles deLardemelle and Richard Holt.
In addition to the outstanding pre-conference workshops such as "Powerful Strategies for Managing Money with ETFs," "Morningstar Stock Valuation 101" and "Senior Suitability, Regulations, Problems and Solutions," you will find sessions over the course of this event to help you manage and market your practice, manage the transition from wealth accumulation to wealth distribution, and explore nontraditional retirement investments. We'll also show you how to generally enhance your practice by providing you with plenty of insight on the changing economy, financial markets and the advisory business. As always, our exhibit hall will offer you the chance to hear from more than 80 leading companies about their latest products and innovations.
Our opening general session will kick off with a keynote presentation, "How to Build and Maintain Client Trust Through All Economic Cycles," by noted author and personal coach Bill Bachrach, followed by "How to Make Money In Tough Times," presented by Forbes columnist Gary Shilling.
On day two, following a dynamite lineup of concurrent sessions and sponsored workshops, Ned Davis, president and senior strategist of Ned Davis Research Inc., will present, "Foundations of a Super-Cycle or Secular Lows?", and on day three, you'll be treated to the return of Don Phillips' All-Star Fund Managers, featuring Elizabeth Bramwell, Steven Leuthold and Ron Mulenkamp. You'll be sure to want to stick around until the very end of the conference to hear the closing keynote presented by Steve Forbes, chairman, CEO and editor in chief of the respected magazine that bears his name.
I want to thank our attendees for taking time from their busy schedules to participate in this exciting conference, and I especially want to thank our exhibitors and sponsors-in particular our platinum sponsor, TD Ameritrade Institutional; our gold sponsor, Morningstar; and our silver sponsor, Scottrade-all of whom make it possible for us to deliver Financial Advisor magazine and the Financial Advisor Symposium free to our readers. Please be sure to visit our exhibitors to learn more and to thank them for supporting the Symposium. Once again, the fact that you have come to the symposium represents a statement of faith in our industry and the future.
