Aging demographics are also having an impact on CPA financial planners—57 percent are seeing more of the impact of long-term-care issues on their clients’ retirement planning. Half of the respondents are seeing an increase in their clients acting as caretakers for aging relatives, and 45 percent of them are seeing their clients’ diminishing mental capacity as being an issue that will impact their retirement plans.
The news wasn’t all bad. Half the survey’s respondents said their clients are experiencing more confidence that they’re going to be ready for retirement than they were five years ago.
The AICPA survey was fielded from August 20 through September 24, 2018, among 631 CPAs offering financial planning services to their clients.
