The CFP Board Center for Financial Planning will honor academic writers for the best papers presented on financial topics at its first Academic Research Colloquium for Financial Planning and Related Disciplines.

The colloquium will be held in Arlington, Va., Feb. 7 to Feb. 9. It will be followed by the CFP Board Registered Program Conference in Arlington on Feb. 9 and Feb. 10. Financial advisors can still register for both programs.

Awards will be given for the best papers on the following subjects:

The TD Ameritrade Institutional Best Paper Award in behavioral finance will recognize the best research paper that brings psychological insight into human behavior and decision-making with implications for financial planning practice.

The Northwestern Mutual Best Paper Award in insurance/risk management will recognize the best research paper in the discipline of insurance/risk management with implications for financial planning practice.

The Merrill Lynch Student Best Paper Award will be presented to the graduate student with the best research paper that directly or indirectly relates to financial planning practice.

The BMO Wealth Management Best Paper Award in consumer finance will recognize the best research paper that focuses on factors that impact the client-planner relationship, such as financial therapy, sociology, and communication and counseling.

The CFP Board Center for Financial Planning Best Paper Award in investments will recognize the best research paper that focuses on the area of investments, with implications for financial planning practice.
