Some 19% of men said they would use nonretirement savings to cover health-care expenses, while only 9% of women said they could use savings to cover out-of-pocket expenses.

While 20% of men said they’d tap a 401(k) plan, only 15% of women said they would do so.

A whopping 51% of people started a campaign or helped someone cover health related medical expenses by contributing to a crowdfunding request, Nationwide said.

About half of people have either started or donated to a campaign that can benefit friends, family members and even people they’ve never met, the survey found.

Many Americans can’t provide a good reason why they don’t get preventative care, while others indicate cost and time as barriers, according to the survey. Just 22% said cost deterred them, while 18% said: “It’s hard to find the time to receive these services.”

Among the people who say health and wellness is not a priority, women report that they lack motivation and energy in order to prioritize their health, while men say they’re naturally healthy or just not interested.

Yet another 9% said: “I haven't performed these services in the past, so why start now?”
