A former state regulator has joined
the executive ranks of the Certified Financial Planner Board of
Standards, the organization announced.
Virginia Jo Dunlap, a former deputy commissioner of
the California Department of Corporations and chief of its enforcement
division, will become a senior member of the CFP Board's executive team
starting August 1.
Dunlap, a civil litigator prior to joining
government service, coordinated California's investigations with state
and federal regulators during the analyst conflict of interest cases
and led the defense when state-licensed operating subsidiaries of
national banks sued the state claiming federal preemption prevented
state regulation of those businesses, according to the CFP Board.
She is a graduate of the University of Nevada with a
bachelor's degree in journalism and holds a juris doctor degree from
the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law.
"Jo Dunlap's experience as a policy, enforcement and
administrative leader in California state government will serve her
well at CFP Board and we look forward to working with her," said Sarah
Ball Teslik, CEO of the CFP Board. "Her experience will be particularly
valuable in dealing with our external stakeholders, especially contacts
from the 300-plus CFP Board-Registered Programs and the large financial
service firms."
Dunlap's exact role and title have not yet been
established but she will be involved in projects related "to our
obligations to serve the public," said CFP Board spokeswoman Mauricia
Hannaman.
"Having left a career in public service, I am proud
to join CFP Board as it gives me an opportunity to serve the public
good in the private arena where raising public awareness about the
benefits of financial planning is a top priority of the organization,"
Dunlap said.
