The Financial Planning Association
has teamed up with the National Endowment for Financial Education to
create an online life-stages financial planning tool.
In other news, the FPA also announced it is taking nominations for its annual P. Kemp Fain Jr. Award.
The new Web site, called Life Events & Financial
Decisions, explores financial considerations at various stages of life,
including marriage, divorce, starting a job, buying a home, serving in
the military and crises and emergencies.
The site is located at www.fpanet.org/public/tools/lifeevents.
"We're excited to work with NEFE on this project,"
said Marvin W. Tuttle Jr., executive director and CEO of FPA. "We've
found that most individuals seek out financial planning advice based on
a major life event. We hope that this Web site provides the information
needed to point individuals in the right direction as they approach and
experience major life events."
The nominations for the P. Kemp Fain Jr. Award,
meanwhile, are being accepted until May 22. The award will be presented
at FPA Nashville on October 21-24.
The award recognizes an individual who has made
outstanding contributions to the financial planning profession. It is
named after the person who formed the first International Association
for Financial Planning (IAFP) chapter in the nation in 1971 and served
as its president.
Nominees should be professionals who have made a
significant contribution to the financial planning profession in the
areas of service to society, academia, government and professional
activities, according to the FPA. "They must also exemplify FPA's core
values of integrity, competence, relationships and stewardship,"
according to the organization.
Nominations should be in the form of a one- to
three-page letter describing why the individual should be considered.
