Same Contribution Rate, Fewer Loans
The portion of savers who took out a new 401(k) loan in 2010 dropped slightly to 11.1%, from 10.6% in 2009, according to Fidelity's analysis.
The average amount workers are contributing to their plans remains a stubborn 8.2%--the same it's been for the past two years, and down from about 8.8% in early 2008 and 8.9% in early 2006.
But a higher portion of workers increased their deferral rate than decreased it in the fourth quarter of 2010: 6.1% of savers put more towards their plan, versus 3% who decreased their savings rate.
