The world’s billionaire population has reached 2,170 individuals, according to Wealth-X, an information resource on the ultra-high-net-worth population.

The Wealth-X and UBS Billionaire Census 2013 shows 810 of those people became billionaires since the 2009 financial crisis.

The billionaire population’s combined net worth rose from $3.1 trillion in 2009 to $6.5 trillion this year.

Europe is home to the most billionaires with 766, but North America has the most billionaire wealth at $2.16 trillion. Asia experienced the highest percentage rise in billionaire population (3.7% from 2012) and total wealth (13%) in 2013. At this rate, Wealth-X says, Asia will catch up with North America in five years.

Latin America is the slowest growing region in terms of billionaire wealth, increasing by 2.3 percent since last year, the report says.
