BlackRock and Commonfund veteran Martha Shear has been hired by Bitwise Asset Management to serve as managing director and head of business development, the San-Francisco-based cryptocurrency index fund creator announced.

Before joining Bitwise, Shear was director of business development for Commonfund, a $24.9 billion asset manager providing institutions with alternative strategies and investment management. She was also vice president for iShares sales at BlackRock, which has $6.3 trillion in assets under management

Shear arrives among other recent high-profile Bitwise hires, including three other names from the ETF industry. Former ETF.com chief executive officer Matt Hougan has joined as the global head of research. Former United States Commodity Funds chief investment officer John Hyland is now the global head of exchange-traded products. And former New York Life senior vice president Teddy Fusaro is now Bitwise's chief operations officer. Fusaro was instrumental in the development of IndexIQ, a $4 billion ETF asset manager.
