When making large fund drives, one of the most important things to do is for officers of the organization to write personal thank-you notes to those who did the heavy lifting. But it is remarkable how many people fail to perform this important task; surveys show that 25% do so.

And the closer a charity can demonstrate that it performs real benefits for the community or that the cause invariably collects the most of all, the more people are likely to give. Says Melissa Brown: "In these times, it is important for charities to make sure that their donors know that even a small bit helps."
