Finance Prof. Tom L. Potts will receive the P. Kemp Fain Jr. Award from the Financial Planning Association, the group announced Wednesday.
Potts is professor of finance and former director of the financial planning program at Baylor University. He has served as past president of the FPA and past chair of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, the International CFP Council and the FPA Global Advisory Council. He helped found and is past president of the Academy of Financial Services.
A researcher, educator and contributor in the field of financial planning, Potts has been on the editorial review board for the Journal of Financial Planning, Financial Services Review, the Journal of Personal Finance and the Journal of Certified Financial Planner, and he was the co-author of "Practicing Financial Planning for Professionals."
The P. Kemp Fain Jr. Award is the highest individual honor bestowed by the FPA. It will be presented to Potts in October at the 2019 FPA Annual Conference in Minneapolis. Named after the late P. Kemp Fain, Jr., is presented to an individual who has made significant contributions to the advancement of the financial planning profession through remarkable achievements in service to society, academia, government and professional activities, the FPA said.
“As past president and the first academician to serve on the FPA board of directors, Dr. Potts is a visionary leader instrumental in defining financial planning as a true profession and bridging the gap between the academic world and the financial planning community,” FPA President Evelyn M. Zohlen said in a prepared statement.
