Teams from eight universities will compete in the Financial Planning Challenge with the winners to be announced at the 2018 Financial Planning Association conference in Chicago in October.

The teams of undergraduates studying finance come from:

  • Fort Hays State University
  • Kansas State University
  • Texas A&M University
  • Texas Tech University
  • University of Georgia
  • Utah Valley University
  • Western Kentucky University
  • William Paterson University

The competition is sponsored by the FPA, Ameriprise Financial and the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc., and is designed to promote the financial planning profession as a career opportunity.

The teams have competed in preliminary rounds to advance to the finals. They will be required to complete a written financial plan, present a case study and compete in a financial planning knowledge contest.

FPA Executive Director and CEO Lauren M. Schadle, said, “There is an imminent need for talented, young professionals to join the profession and this competition helps bridge the transition from the classroom to a career in financial planning.”

The top three winning teams will receive a monetary scholarship for their school.
