Stamford, Conn.-based NewEdge Wealth, an RIA specializing in serving the needs of ultra-high-net-worth families offices and institutional clients, has hired Michael Kramer as managing director, the firm announced Monday.

Kramer, who was a board-certified practicing cardiologist before transitioning to the wealth management industry almost two decades ago, comes to NewEdge from his former firm First Republic Investment Management.

"Our firm continues on a strong growth trajectory as advisors align with the values, culture and service support we provide,” Rob Sechan, CEO and co-founder of NewEdge Wealth, said in a statement. “Michael’s unconventional professional path to wealth management provides him with expertise that will enhance our ability to serve ultra-high-net-worth clients.”

Previously, Kramer served as a managing director and wealth manager with First Republic Investment Management, which he joined in 2020. Prior to that, he was a principal and Group CEO at B. Riley Wealth Advisors and a managing director at Ladenburg Thalmann. Kramer was a practicing cardiologist who served on the Mount Sinai School of Medicine faculty before pursuing a career in wealth management.

NewEdge Wealth, which launched in December 2020, continues to expand its national footprint. In June, the firm announced the opening of San Francisco and Nashville area branches. NewEdge Wealth now has nine offices in addition to its headquarters.
