Rockefeller Capital Management has added a former Merrill Lynch father-son team that handled $1.3 billion in assets to its global family office in San Jose, Calif., according to a news release.

David Mendoza and his son Matthew Mendoza lead The Mendoza Group, a six-member team that will report to Brian Riley, who heads the Rockefeller Capital’s Pacific Northwest Division.

Separately, former UBS advisor Matthew Langhorst also moved to Rockefeller Global Family Office last week, the firm announced.

Managing director and private wealth advisor David Mendoza began his career at E.F Hutton & Company in 1978 and joined Merrill Lynch in 1981, according to BrokerCheck. He was named to the Forbes Best-In-State Wealth Advisors list in April. According to the listing, Mendoza’s team managed $1.3 billion with a $1 million minimum account size for new businesses.

Matthew Mendoza, also managing director and private wealth advisor, began his career with Merrill Lynch in 2008. He also was named to the Forbes Best-in-State Wealth Advisors list this year and has been on Forbes Top Next-Gen Wealth Advisors list.

Also joining the team are Max Podlone, vice president and private wealth advisor; Elizabeth McKown, vice president and private wealth advisor; Sandy Tran, associate vice president and client associate; and Virginia McDonald, associate vice president and client associate.

“With more than four decades of experience, David Mendoza has earned the trust of business owners, executives, professionals and multiple generations of his clients’ families by guiding them expertly through changing economic conditions and market cycles,” Christopher Dupuy, co-head of the global family office and president of private wealth management, and Michael Outlaw, national field director of the global family office, said in a joint statement.

Langhorst operates Langhorst Wealth Management Group of Dallas. He began his career at Morgan Stanley in 2000 before moving to UBS in 2004. He is joined by Rebecca Hallman, senior client associate. The team is part of the firm’s Central Division, headed by divisional Director Michael Armondo.

The Langhorst Wealth Management Group and The Mendoza Group are the 78th and 79th team to join the Rockefeller private wealth division since its creation in 2018. The New York City-based Rockefeller Capital Management has 36 offices across the U.S. Earlier this year, it opened an office in London. As of March 31, the firm was responsible for about $95 billion in client assets across its three business segments: the Rockefeller Global Family Office (including Private Wealth Management and Family Office), Rockefeller Asset Management and Rockefeller Strategic Advisory.
