Martin C. Seay has been named president-elect of the Financial Planning Association in 2019.

The Denver-based FPA announced on Wednesday at its annual national conference in Chicago that Seay, who serves as program director and associate professor of personal financial planning at Kansas State University, was elected as 2019 president-elect by the organization’s board of directors.

Additionally, the FPA announced the election of three new members to its board of directors:

• James Lee, president of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-based Lee Investment Management.

• Karen W. McDade, director of financial planning at Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Ashton Thomas Private Wealth.

• Jason T. Plank, private wealth advisor at Ameriprise Financial in Edina, Minn.

“[The] FPA represents the present and future of the financial planning profession through its focus on informing the practice of financial planning and shaping the environment in which it is practiced,” said Seay in released comments. “I look forward to working with our members, volunteer leaders and allied partners to reaffirm and enhance FPA as the home for CFP professionals.”

Seay will replace Evelyn M. Zohlen after she assumes the FPA’s presidency on Jan. 1.

Seay’s research has twice been recognized by the FPA, winning both the 2014 and the 2017 FPA Annual Conference Best Applied Research awards.
