Stuart H. Armstrong II, Craig Jergenson and Tara L. Scottino have been named recipients of the 2019 Heart of Financial Planning Award by the Financial Planning Association, the FPA announced Thursday.
The awards will be presented in October at the FPA annual conference in Minneapolis. The recipients “exemplify the spirit of financial planning and represent FPA’s core values of competence, integrity, relationships and stewardship,” the FPA said.
Armstrong, a financial planner with Centinel Financial Group, which has offices throughout Massachusetts, has had a 30-year career in financial planning, during which he has been committed to fostering diversity in underserved communities. He was nominated for the award for his work in and pro bono advice to the LGBTQ community and for serving as an expert on financial issues pertaining to same-sex partners.
A past member of the FPA Board of Directors and PridePlanners Board of Directors, “he has been a pioneer in bridging the gap between the financial planning profession and the LGBTQ community, the FPA said. Armstrong is a current member of the CFP Board’s Center for Financial Planning Advisory Council and is co-chair of the FPA PridePlanners Knowledge Circle.
Jergenson, founder of Coach Craig Financial in Maple Grove, Minn., “is passionate about helping financial planners learn and develop their skills to better serve their clients and elevate the profession. A past president of the FPA of Minnesota, he has dedicated many years serving on multiple FPA chapter committees and giving back to the local practitioner community,” the FPA said.
Scottino, a financial advisor with True North Advisors in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, “is being recognized for her commitment to serving the financial planning profession and community as past president of FPA of Dallas/Fort Worth and FPA NexGen. She has volunteered her time and expertise to the FPA Chapter Leadership Council, FPA Experience Task Force and the Foundation for Financial Planning’s Board of Trustees,” the FPA said.
