When an advisor or a client has a gripe about the Securities and Exchange Commission or one of its agents, there will soon be a specific professional at the agency to go to: its first ombudsman, Tracey McNeil.

McNeil will also be handling complaints from the financial industry and the public about the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, the Securities Investor Protection Corporation and other self-regulatory organizations.

McNeil starts September 22. The best way to reach her will be to call (202) 551-3201, an SEC spokesman said.

She currently is a senior counsel in the SEC’s Office of Minority and Women Inclusion.

In her new post, the attorney will be based in the SEC’s Office of Investor Advocate, which took three SEC chairmen to establish.

Her job was mandated by the four-year-old Dodd Frank Act.

The lack of urgency in getting her position up and running speaks for itself.
