Ultimately, the client's expenses were reduced by more than $400,000—or 13% of total annual expenditures.

"It truly did take a team of professionals," reflected Massimo, who launched CJM in 2003 after 20 years with firms such as Shearson Lehman, New York Life, Merrill Lynch and Smith Barney. CJM's mission, he has stated, is to build on his passion for people, not profits.

"Part of our value add is providing one point of contact," he said. "We have developed relationships with specialists throughout the country, such as cost remediation experts. Sometimes providing our clients with the best possible experience means bringing in experts from other fields."

He added, "It's important that, as an advisor, you’re open to collaborating in order for your clients to reap the benefits."
