LPL Financial announced that two Philadelphia-area advisors will launch an independent hybrid practice and join LPL Strategic Wealth Services, the firm’s supported independence platform.

Advisors Trevor Johnson and Brian Russo have formed Steeplechase Capital Partners in Newtown Square, Pa., joining LPL from RBC, where they served about $265 million in advisory, brokerage and retirement plan assets, LPL said on Tuesday.

Steeplechase Capital Partners serves primarily professional athletes, high-net-worth families and small business owners, said LPL. Johnson and Russo founded their joint practice in 2011. The firm’s new name reflects Chester County, Pa.’s equestrian heritage and steeplechase racing venue, as well as the synergy created when horse and rider are in sync, according to a press release.

The advisors joined LPL after deciding two years ago that it was time to “break away from the wirehouse environment,” according to the announcement.

LPL Strategic Wealth Services is a platform designed for growth-oriented advisors and RIAs who want to independently own their business but also want the support a major enterprise firm like LPL can offer, according to the release.
