“Getting the best care is crucial, as well as cultivating a support system that will be there throughout the journey,” she said.

While it’s predominantly women receiving breast cancer diagnoses, approximately 1% of U.S. men do annually as well. Although the rate is lower, it still means more than 2,000 new cases of breast cancer among American men.

This fall, MassMutual also plans to update underwriting guidelines for individuals diagnosed with prostate cancer.

“If we can play even a small role in the peace of mind that comes from lessening the financial worries for someone diagnosed with breast cancer or any other ailment by insuring more people who need what we have to offer, we look for every opportunity to do just that,” said Dr. Jacki Goldstein, head medical director of MassMutual.
