New York-based Mercury Capital Advisors announced the appointment of Nick Savasta as chief investment officer and partner. Savasta will oversee investment advisory for the firm.

He will report to Michael Ricciardi, chief executive officer and managing partner, and lead the firm in advising clients on alternative assets, including direct private equity investments and allocations to fund managers.

Previously, Savasta was at the Michael Dell-affiliated MSD Partners, where Savasta was a managing director and co-head of the Strategic Investment Group. He has also been a senior merchant banker with Allen & Company, and an investment banker in the corporate finance division with Morgan Stanley. In addition, Savasta serves on the executive board of the MIT Sloan School of Management and was previously a guest lecturer for the “Introduction to Alternative Investments” seminar at Yale University.

In April, Mercury announced that Reymundo Calcano had joined as chief financial officer from Brevan Howard. Last October, Donal Mastrangelo was named partner and head of Mercury’s U.S. iFunds Distribution platform. Mastrangelo had come from Guggenheim Partners.

Mercury has recently opened U.S. offices in Palm Beach, Fla, and Seattle. The opening of a New Delhi office in February marked the firm’s expansion into India.
