While similar credentials previously cost firms around $5,000 all told, the Institute will offer the CBVA course and certification for $1,995 -- $1,495 for current BizEquity clients.

BizEquity’s wager, according to Carter, is that by educating more advisors about how valuations are calculated and how they can be used to help clients, the company will convince firms to adopt its Advisor Office valuation platform.

“This includes stuff like how to read a balance sheet and income statement, things that most advisors won’t admit that they need a refresher on,” says Carter. “We think that everybody needs a refresher now and then.”

In the future, the Institute will include continuing education to ensure that CBVA-holders retain their knowledge and skill in business valuation, said Carter.
