Opto Investments will offer its private markets solutions on the RIA platform of Portland, Ore.-based tru Independence, the companies announced today.

Opto will provide access to a series of private market investments along with a customized set of multistrategy funds, exclusive to tru’s network advisors. The agreement gives tru’s advisor network access to alternative investments, which the firm has been looking to deliver for its clients, according to a press release.

“Alternatives investments can provide diversification, lower the overall volatility in portfolios, while generating risk adjusted returns that are different from traditional equity and fixed income allocations,” said Craig Stuvland, founder and CEO of tru Independence.

Tru’s advisors can also use Opto’s recently unveiled service that creates custom-built fund strategies advisors use for their clients.

“We pride ourselves on providing fiduciary advisors with the best combination of client service, human talent, and fintech,” Stuvland said. “With Opto, we have found a partner that allows us to offer our advisors access to a suite of unique and customized private market investments with leading-edge technology."

Use of Opto’s technology on tru’s platform will not cost any additional fees as it will be incorporated into the existing technology, Stuvland explained.

It will take Opto a few months to fully incorporate it into tru’s proprietary technology stack, said Nick Gerace, advisory services relationship manager at Opto.

The two sides are optimistic about their partnership, with Gerace saying it is an opportunity to provide greater exposure to the private markets.

“We’re excited to offer differentiated bespoke private market opportunities to clients of RIAs within the tru network,” he said. “We are passionate about the importance of private markets in portfolio construction, and we are confident in our ability to provide access to the right opportunities.”
