In new resolutions filed for the first time this year by shareholders, Wells Fargo and Bank of America were asked to report on their lending practices to private prison companies involved in immigrant detention (the resolution was withdrawn after the banks reached agreements with the filer). Private prison firms CoreCivic and GEO Group were asked to adopt policies that don’t separate immigrant detainees from their children.

A proposal on online child sexual exploitation is pending at Sprint and Verizon Communications. Telecom companies morphing into content companies must address this issue, says Passoff. He notes that several large companies recently suspended advertising on Google’s YouTube after pedophilic comments were found on the site.

“These human rights issues go viral,” says Passoff, and all stakeholders must be prepared.
