The Social Security Administration said Wednesday it is speeding disability claims for veterans.

Getting money to vets is being made possible through the start of computer link to medical records at the Veterans Administration, according to the agency.

The link enables the SSA to get veterans’ medical records from the VA in minutes instead of the weeks or months it used to take to get the records manually. Documentation of a medical condition is a key part of the process of determining eligibility for disability benefits.

Social Security has often been criticized for having too much of its claims processed manually.

Through its efforts to obtain medical records electronically, the Social Security is now working with over 50 other organizations, including the Defense Department.
