- Three-quarters of respondents (73 percent) said number one on their wish list was retirement income preparation assistance.
- Two-thirds of respondents (60 percent) said they needed financial advice about Social Security and Medicare.
- One-third (32 percent) wanted debt counseling.
- One-quarter of respondents (26 percent) said that financial advice would help them save to buy a home.
Patrick Murphy, president and CEO of John Hancock Retirement Plan Services, saw the results of the survey as an indicator that clients with limited funds and numerous financial commitments needed financial advice that reduced their stress.
“People need help managing competing financial obligations, and it is up to providers, advisors, and employers to offer participants a holistic approach to financial wellness,” he said. “That is how we will help people achieve financial success, whatever that may mean to them.”
The survey, commissioned by John Hancock and conducted by Greenwald & Associates, surveyed 1,352 John Hancock plan participants in June 2018.
