As a part of reshuffling of senior positions, Teresa Hassara has been appointed head of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company’s workplace solutions business, MassMutual announced Tuesday.

She will handle the institutional retirement plan benefits for the Springfield, Mass.-based company.

Hassara previously was with TIAA, where she was president of the institutional retirement business and a member of its corporate executive management team, managing more than half a trillion dollars in retirement plan assets.

She succeeds Eric Wietsma, who will be head of MassMutual's retirement operations organization.

Several other changes effective February 1 were made in the realignment of the leadership team, which is designed to accelerate the company's growth.

Mark Roellig has been appointed chief technology and administrative officer. He will be responsible for advancing the role technology plays as a strategic driver of MassMutual business. Roellig has been general counsel of MassMutual since joining the company in 2005.

Michael O'Connor will succeed Roellig as general counsel. He will handle legal, compliance, government relations and corporate governance matters. Additionally, he will be responsible for administration of the internal audit and corporate compliance functions.

O'Connor joined MassMutual in 2005 and has led MassMutual's corporate development function, served as president of international insurance businesses and led the work associated with last year's MetLife Premier Client Group acquisition and integration.

Eddie Ahmed has been named chairman and CEO of MassMutual International LLC and will be based in Asia. He joined MassMutual in 2015 as head of human resources.
