Then advisors can effectively help clients manage their own emotions around wealth-including feelings of vulnerability around the very act of seeking advice.

"Clients want to trust someone, they want help to feel confident and they want to feel free to ask 'stupid' questions," says Shunk. "Often they're sitting there thinking, 'I know you work with so-and-so who has $30 million and I only have $15 million-am I wasting your time?'"
