When it comes to picking college majors, it's not always about the money. 

A new ranking by Bankrate.com, in fact, identifies the academic area concentration where this outlook especially holds true.

The ranking takes a look at 162 degree programs and assess them according to salaries and employment rates. The study identified the majors that yield the top financial rewards for graduates, on average. But, as with any list, it also identified the bottom dwellers when it comes to college majors and earning power.

But the study also noted that this shouldn't discourage students from pursuing their interests, nor dissuade them from a low-ranked college major that they're interested in. In the final analysis, according to the report, it comes down to the student, and any college major can be vaulable.

“The biggest myth we see is by choosing a major you’re basically choosing the career you have for the rest of your life,” Harry Twyman, director of The Major Experience at UConn, said in the Bankrate.com report. “Essentially all a major does is say, ‘Hey, I studied a little bit more classes in this area than opposed to others.’”

These are the majors, in descending order, that finished as the bottom 10 of Bankrate.com's college ranking:

10. Library Science
