Top 10 Safest Cities In The U.S.

A research and personal finance website has ranked what it says are the U.S. cities that provide the most safety to its citizens.

WalletHub compared 182 cities throughout the U.S. using a variety of factors, including crime, natural disaster risk and financial safety.

Other risk factors that entered into the scores were the chances of a terrorist attack, thefts per capita, unemployment rates, the number of households with emergency savings and earthquake and wildfire risk.

Hate crimes were also considered. Corpus Christi, Texas, for example, had the fewest amount of hate crimes per capita, while Phoenix, Boston, Seattle, Cincinnati, Portland, Maine, and Columbus, Ohio, tied for having the highest levels of hate crimes per capita.

Dover, Del., was tops for having the lowest natural disaster risk level, while Oklahoma City, Okla., which has experienced a spike in earthquake activity in recent years, had the highest risk level.

The following cities, in ascending order, were ranked as the safest by WalletHub:

I appreciate the difficult task to find places that fit everyone's wants, by region, wealth, services, healthcare, transportation, etc. My issue is that these are not "cities" in the common vernacular of large metropolitan areas, i.e. Chicago, Denver, NYC, Miami, and similar. The cities selected are so small and sometimes remote, that it is misleading. I do understand that the definition of what a city actually is, is expansive, and almost too all-inclusive. Next time, call these small cities to alleviate confusion. Thanks P.S. yes, I live in New York City. 8.5 million in NYC (average of 27,000 per sq.mi.) & 20 million more in the metropolitan area.
